I get excited when new seasons come along – if only because that means amazing new denim to try. I picked out some looks that I really loved – and highly recommend – for the upcoming seasons. Spring 2012 will be a hugely hot season for denim of all styles and kinds (potentially with a few people still trying the double denim look, which I personally consider a huge no bueno.), so I wanted to select some looks I loved, cuts I craved and the most incredible indigo (and beyond!) out there.
1. Madewell Selvedge Jeans – I love the Shoo Fly wash, but I’m fairly impartial when it comes to that. What I love is the use of selvedge with stretch, since selvedge (read more: What is selvedge denim?) is tricky to make into slimmer cuts.
2. Bright Denim – Nothing is going as crazy as colored denim. I have a handful of pairs myself and I still cannot get enough – one of the brands I’m loving the most is Superdry, thanks to their Pop Your Colour collection (including the Poppy denim seen below). These are priced right (under $150) and super stylish!
3. Retro style flares – A style that few do better than Dittos Denim’s wide flare and MiH’s Marrakesh cut, I happen to adore the 70′s style flare. It’s fresh while still looking fun, and the higher cut waistlines tend to be more comfortable for a wide range of body types.
4. Basic Blues (made better) – There is truly nothing more satisfying than getting the perfect pair of blue jeans. Sure, it takes a few tries to find the right pair, but if you’re going to drop some dough on new denim, you might as well make sure you do it right. Some of my favorite brands for the perfect basic blue jean? Red Engine, DL1961 and Agave Denim.
