I wrote this post about my new Edwin denim jacket last week, but it doesn’t make quite clear just how much I’m in love with the piece. First off: I don’t do double denim. So I give up wearing jeans whenever I want to wear this jacket. Which is pretty often. That says something, don’t you think? I write for an effing denim blog. So I thought I’d show you guys how I wear it.
Pretty boring outfit, but I wanted to show it for two reasons:
1) The jacket!
2) The leggings!
The jacket is perfect, yes. It fits amazingly and I love it. The raw wash goes with everything. I usually wear it with the sleeves cuffed but uncuffed the sleeve length is perfect as well. Usually I have a problem with sleeves being too long when I’ve tried on other denim jackets. This is such a classic piece I can picture myself wearing it forever.
But the reason why the leggings are important in this outfit is because I’m wearing them correctly.
Leggings are NOT pants. These are my Work Custom Viper Leggings in Black. They have real back pockets and faux front pockets, but they are still leggings (need more information on what counts as pants? Click here). When you wear leggings, please wear them with a longer top. Public Service Announcement of the day.
Back to the outfit. Denim jackets look great with something girly, like the floral top I wore in my first post about this jacket. Floral and denim jackets go together like… red velvet and cream cheese frosting. The top I’m wearing here barely counts as floral but oh well.
They look great with skirts and dresses too. I haven’t worn it with one yet because the weather has been crap lately, but I will soon. Like tomorrow. Something colorful. I usually gravitate towards neutrals (this outfit is a perfect example – see my half-assed attempt to add color with that necklace?) but I’m dying to wear this jacket with a printed purple dress that I have in mind.
Anyway, I figured this post would be a good excuse to not only brag about my new favorite jacket, but tell people not to wear leggings as if they were pants. I hope you learned that today if you didn’t already know.
What would you wear with a denim jacket?
P.S. I promise to clean my mirror.
