Somehow, I missed this announcement. Am I the only one who’s disappointed in me?!?! Either way, this is something to get excited about… James Jeans’ creator, Seun Lim, has started a new line: James Icon!
The idea is kind of similar to Paige Black Label – a complimentary, higher end line to coexist with the original denim brand – but a lot warmer and with more knits.

The Creative Director of James Jeans, Seun Lim, launches James Icon, a contemporary lifestyle brand that merges effortless chic with cool confidence and sexy edginess. The premier Fall 2010 collection will introduce leather with intricate detailing, knits in rich wool blends, and high quality cotton t-shirts which are sure to become your go-to with ICON jeans. Since 2004, Lim has been perfecting the fit and design of denim by allowing the jeans to perfectly mold to one’s body, all the while introducing trendsetting washes and silhouettes. Focused on creating the best product, with the core of the collection being premium denim, Lim’s strives to push the envelope with her designs while creating timeless styles.
Lim desired to create the brand to fulfill a specific void in the market, “James Icon is a new brand where edginess is cherished and coveted and conventions are left to fate. It is the supercharged, daring step sister to the elegant and graceful James Jeans,” explains Lim. James Icon is designed to summon natural inner beauty and confidence both liberating and empowering to women when worn. The line is targeted for women who are not only fashion forward but are the trendsetting leaders conveying style and taste.
Born in Seoul, Korea, now based in Los Angeles, Lim’s relaxed poise and fearless persona translates into each of her designs with a natural sexy sprit. Lim studied design at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago and secured her role in the fashion world with Buoy, a knitwear clothing line, which lead her to James Jeans. With her knowledge of both denim and knits, Lim has begun her next fashion venture, an accessible and sophisticated contemporary women’s line…ICON.
An icon is the object of great attention and utter devotion, while setting the pace for those that follow, and now the brand James Icon allows women to embrace their style by providing fashion with no apologies. By fusing premium fabrics, flattering silhouettes and a philosophy of subtle yet sophisticated design, James Icon is a breath of fresh fashion air. Lim believes, “James Icon is today’s answer and tomorrow’s fashion”.
Set to hit stores by July 2010, the prices range from $80-$600 and will be available at specialty stores nationwide. Expect men’s and accessories collections in 2011.
In my opinion, it’s definitely more on-trend than Paige Black Label and seems to be more about fashion than about basics. Both brands are great, and I’m excited to see Seun Lim try her hand at fashion! Check out more detail shots below.
