Denim Done Right: the Rocker Chic Style

by Jaime on May 30, 2010

I torture a lot of people on here for their bad taste in denim, but there are SO many brands, designers and stylists who really know how to put a great outfit together. One of my personal favorite looks is Rocker Chic: a little edgy, totally comfortable and great to wear on a night out.

Here are the five tips to making your Rocker Chic outfit work!

1. Find the perfect pair of moto jeans: I love my Vintage1 Moto Jeans. They fit well, have a great wash and offer the perfect amount of edginess to any outfit. For a basic, easily worn moto denim style, try Current/Elliott The Moto Leggings in Blue/Black.

2. Pair with a to-die-for jacket: I’ve been swooning over the Nom De Plume YaYa Moto Jacket over at Urban Outfitters for two reasons: first, it’s a cotton blend, so you won’t be clashing in double denim. Second, it’s so affordable! This is a great snag for the upcoming Summer and Fall seasons.

3. Blacken your eyes: Make your eyes pop with some dark shadow and liner. I recommend testing out Cover Girl’s Smoky Shadow Blast kit (I was able to try it through BzzAgent, and I’ve totally fallen in love!) with a black eyeliner for below. Keep the rest of your look fresh.

4. Go feminine on top: I like to mix up the masculine with a bright color or girlish print. Try something like the Fluxus Alligator Top that floats between edgy and feminine while still holding its own with the outfit.

5. Basic heels: This outfit is CRYING out for heels. Use a basic pump, but try something new. Go with bright colors (like the Rock & Republic Lotus Platform Pumps with Chains) or get your own personalized style with ShoeDazzle.

No matter how you recreate the Rocker look, you can make it shine just by giving it some of your own personality. How would YOU wear this look?

Love,
JP

OMG, I just got that jacket! I found one in my size on the sale rack for $29.99–not sure if it was a return or what, but it looks like it’s in perfect condition and I love it.

Great advice on the jean type for an edgy Rocker Look. I would pair it up with one of the Anama or Perpetual Vogue Brand tops from TattooApparel.com. I also really like their Rocker Jewelry as it is big and bold.

Think you hit some style points right on the head. Would also like to shout out some brands like Ksino and Daisy Rock
