Tips and Tricks to Save Your Denim, Part Four

Missed the first three tips? Check them out here!

I’m leaving this open-ended, because knowing me, I’ll think of another couple of things to add. But here, for now, is your final part to the Tips and Tricks series.

4. Scotch-Guard your Denim.

Okay, maybe not. I don’t think that would pan out too well. But when you drop that red sauce on your lap, or take a tumble and get dirt all over your knee (or, if you’re more like me, walk into a wall that happens to have wet paint… oh yes, I’ve been there), it’s going to piss you off… but not as much as it pisses off your jeans.

Once you’ve made that mess, try and clean the spot as soon as possible. If you’re at work, go to the bathroom and dab (not rub!) it with a cloth/paper towel and water. Odds are, you won’t get everything up, so when you get home, follow these steps:

1. Take off your jeans and read the care label.
2. If the care requirements/options aren’t crazy, try a pre-treat solution. While it’s costly, I recommend The Laundress Stain Solution. You’re paying for quality – just like you did with your denim – and it works well.
3. Wash in cold water with detergent (and only other jeans. I do my denim loads once every six months, and wash all the dirty pairs at one time. It’s better not to mix and match).
4. Air dry (please, for the love of god, LET THEM AIR DRY. I don’t care if you think they’re crunchy for the first hour. They’ll go back. Or use some fabric softener. Sheesh.).

If the stain still isn’t gone? Well… I guess you could get creative.

A little bit of TLC goes a long way, especially when it comes to denim. Love what you buy, and buy what you love… you’ll end up with exactly what you need AND what you want!

Any tips or tricks you think I missed? Share them in the comments!

Love,
JP
