Boy Crazy: How to Wear the Boyfriend Jean Trend

by Jaime on October 7, 2009

(Current/Elliott “The Boyfriend Jean”. On sale for $68.70 at Shopbop.)

I’ll admit it: as much as I really don’t like the silhouette of the boyfriend style (this goes for shorts and jeans alike), I do get it. Why? Because it’s so damn comfortable. And believe me, I do get comfortable.

But, here’s the thing about such a… well, a “slouchy” look: you need to doll it up a little bit.

  1. The looser the jeans, the more fitted the top should be. This goes for everyone… if you’re rocking a pair of jeans like the ones above, keep your top feminine and fitted.
  2. Invest in a pair of comfortable (but still cute!) shoes. I’m not saying you should buy those heels up there (but man, aren’t they darling??!?!), but something that still is flirty and feminine. I prefer heels, but that’s just me; if you’re a girl who loves her flats, try out a girly ballet flat.
  3. Pair your jeans with a fitted blazer. It gives that casual look a little oomph.
  4. Belt it! This is not 1994… and you’re not Kurt Cobain. A loose, casual look is one thing; your butt hanging out? That’s a whole different story. Buy a belt (all of you now know about my Linea Pelle love, so that should be a big hint on what to get!) and make sure that you pair it with these darlings.

What’s important to take out of this fashion style (even if, in normal circumstances, it’s so far from work-appropriate that it’s funny), but it still matters that it’s being done correctly. Style it right and look like a million dollars.

Love,
JP
