Sometimes paying $200 for a pair of jeans just isn't the logical move. But, you still need to look good... that's obvious! So, in situations like this, what do you usually do?
Well, if you're Karyn Scholack, you make a new brand. That's how Alias Premium Denim - the denim brand for everyone - was born.
“We were tired of paying hundreds of dollars for premium denim. We loved the fit and style but didn't love what it was doing to our bank account. We tried less expensive jeans, but just couldn't find the right style and price combination. Since we couldn't find it, we decided to create it!18 months of design and development later and Alias Premium Denim was born, for all the other girls out there that want to look HOT without burning a hole in their jean pocket.”
I was excited to try these since, as most of you know, job hunting is not a profitable living. So a $40 pair of premium denim? Sign me up! They do only come in four sizes (26,28,30, and 32), but the 26 worked pretty well for my size. They're definitely cut for curves, which is pretty awesome (and rare these days!).
These jeans had a couple of things that really worked for them: the rebound of the stretch (Karyn uses a cotton/lycra blend) is great and I didn't have any problems with sagging, the wash is a dark, sultry indigo and the rise is fab (neither too high nor too low at 8.25" for the 26). There are some similarities in this pair with other brands (the back pocket stitching is reminiscent of Silver Jeans, and the triple stitched yoke and inseam remind me of old-school Express jeans [though, in my opinion, these fit better than both other pairs]). Plus, the jeans are totally made in the US, so you can feel better knowing you're supporting a woman owned-and-operated company that does all their work in the states!
Honestly, yes... I can feel a difference between a pair of J Brands and these but then again, so can my wallet. They're a great go-to pair that offer women of every budget range the ability to own a pair of fabulously fashionable jeans. We all deserve them. They are long (the 26 runs about 34"), but the wash doesn't prevent them from being hemmed as much as five inches (possibly more; I'm only comfortable saying five though).
But, you don't have to take my word for it. Karyn has graciously allowed me to do a giveaway on Denim Debutante! You can win your own pair of Alias Premium Denim jeans, so you can try them and see how they compare! Here's how to enter:
Mandatory Entries:
1. Go to Karyn's website, Alias Premium Denim, and fill out the "Sign Up for Promotions" form. Make sure to put Denim Debutante in the "How did you find out about us?" box, or else you won't be included!
2. Leave a comment here!
Also make sure you're following my blog (it's not required, but I do love it when you do!) and both me and Karyn on Twitter!
Karyn will randomly pick the winner and we'll announce it here... but you only have until next Monday, September 14, 2009 to enter... so get moving!
As a bonus, I got some inside information on the goings-on of APD: They're creating a small line of velvet belts for this Fall/Winter Season. The first three styles will be available starting in September (so, very soon!) and they'll be adding an additional three to five styles in the December/January months. Each belt represents a different "personality Alias;" Feminine and Flirty, Cool and Contemporary and Dazzling Diva. PLUS, they're all handmade and beautifully packaged (hello, Christmas gifts!), and retail at $19.99.
So, let me know what you think. Do you like the idea of affordable premium jeans? And, make sure that you enter the giveaway and get your own pair of Alias Denim!
Love,
JP

I am totally in love with the wash! I've been looking for a dark jean for ages! I do like the idea of premium for a budget price. Sometimes designers get out of hand with their prices.

This is exciting!
These jeans are super cute and I love that they are long, since I am tall and have trouble finding the right length!
Very cool! It'll be nice to find jeans that are cut for curves! Just because I have a small waist doesn't mean I have no hips or thighs!
I signed up. Thanks so much for the fabulous giveaway – I would be SO thrilled to win!
